Far From the Sea
Dec 7 - Dec 13, 2024Opening Reception: December 7, 6–8 PM
Flowing Space is pleased to announce Qiyue Zhang solo exhibition, a compelling exploration of migration, memory, and identity, on view from December 7 to December 13, 2024. Join us for the opening reception on December 7th, from 6 to 8 PM.
Qiyue’s exhibition delves into the deeply personal yet universal experience of relocation, loss, and cultural continuity. Through the medium of wet plate photography—a 19th-century technique known for its tactile, one-of-a-kind results—Qiyue captures the stories of Chinese immigrants in America. The series centers on cherished belongings that have traveled across borders, examining their symbolic resonance in shaping identity and preserving memory amidst change.
Each photograph is more than an image; it is a physical archive of time and emotion, revealing traces of the past while connecting them to the present. By blending personal narrative with a historical craft, Qiyue’s work sheds light on the enduring impact of migration and the cultural threads that bind us to our roots.
We invite you to experience this evocative exhibition and reflect on the items we carry—both physically and metaphorically—as we navigate our journeys.
